Toss Launches Financial Fraud Prevention Program for Foreign Residents

Toss announced that it has joined with the Seoul Global Center to hold a financial education session for international students at Seoul Women's University. As the first joint initiative responding to the rise in financial fraud targeting international students, the session drew about 100 participants.

The session addressed a range of scam tactics, including currency-exchange and tuition fraud, voice phishing by impersonators posing as immigration authorities, and schemes that lure victims with promises of high-paying part-time work to lend their bank accounts or carry out proxy purchases. It also walked participants through how to request a payment suspension and report incidents when they fall victim, and introduced practical ways to use financial services such as currency exchange and overseas remittance.

Toss has previously run financial education for underserved groups, including people with diverse cognitive abilities and the visually impaired, but this marks the beginning of its full-scale education efforts for foreign residents.

Through its "Toss Feed" platform, Toss provides everyday information via "10 Korea Life Hacks," spanning the early days of life in Korea to visa extensions and health insurance.

"Foreign users have limited access to financial information and can therefore be more easily exposed to the risk of fraud," a Toss official said. "By organically connecting our services and education, we will raise both the financial accessibility and safety of foreign residents together."

Since 2021, Toss has operated a dedicated organization to support multilingual users, and has advanced its authentication and sign-up processes for them. Having expanded from remittance, asset management, and certificate issuance, it is now extending its efforts to education.
